Here are answers to some frequently asked questions.
What forms of payment do you accept?
- PayPal
- Credit Card - Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
We use PayPal to process the credit card payments, but you do not
need a PayPal account to use your credit card.
- Check or Money Order - Please contact
us to arrange mailing your payment.
How do you ship?
We almost always ship via the US Postal Service, and we currently
only ship to customers in the US and Canada. The shopping cart shows
the actual shipping charge in real time before completing your order.
We do not mark up shipping or add a "handling" charge.
Do you accept returns?
Yes, unwashed, unworn diapers may be returned for a refund, minus
shipping. If you find an obvious defect in the materials or sewing,
please contact us to arrange for a replacement.
Do your diapers fit newborns?
Yes. At the time of writing this, we have a newborn and Crickett's
diapers fit him great! We use gel-free disposables for the first week.
This is about how long it takes for the umbilical cord to fall off
and the meconium to get out of his system. Then we put Crickett's
diapers on him with the front folded down for a couple of weeks. After
that we put the snap-in doublers back in the diapers, and he will
wear those for a year or more, depending on his size.
Do your diapers require a cover?
Yes. You can use many different brands of covers with our diapers,
but we recommend the Super Snap by Bummis. Please read about them
here.
How many should I buy?
Newborns
- Buy 8 to 10 if you want to wash every day.
- Buy 24 to 30 if you want to wash every three days.
Toddlers
- Buy 6 to 8 if you want to wash every day.
- Buy 18 to 24 if you want to wash every three days.
Buy dozens more and give them to your friends :-)
Do your diapers shrink?
Yes, but shrinkage is built into the design. We calculated the amount
of shrinkage in the fabric and adjusted the patterns so the diapers
are just the right size after shrinkage. If you want diapers that
do not shrink, they will have 10% or more polyester woven into the
fabric.
Why don't you use fabric with polyester to control shrinkage?
Polyester doesn't absorb anything, and it holds smells. We prefer
to make Crickett's diapers out of natural fabrics and adjust the design
to accommodate shrinkage.
Why don't you offer diapers in colors?
Colored diapers are made with fabric that is dyed with chemicals.
Some amount of dye comes out in the wash, and so it probably comes
out when the diaper gets soiled. One of the reasons we use cloth diapers
is to reduce the chemicals that come into contact with our children,
so it doesn't make sense to add chemicals (dyes) to the fabric that
is going on our baby's bottom.
Why do your diapers cost a couple dollars more than some of the
other brands?
- Hemp costs more than cotton/polyester.
- Our diapers have more layers than most (including a snap-in doubler).
- They are made in the USA by ladies who receive health insurance,
vacation, sick time, and on-site child care.
